Care & Respite

Respite care at home
on the Fylde Coast

Caring for your parent can leave little time for your own appointments, family commitments or rest. Our respite service provides support in the familiarity of their own home while you take a break, with arrangements based on their care needs.

Based in Lytham St Annes, we support people across the Fylde Coast. Visits last at least an hour.

When you need time
away from caring

Being the person your parent relies on can make it difficult to step away, even for a few hours. A planned break gives you time for other parts of your life while someone else takes on the agreed caring responsibilities.

  • You need time for your own appointments or commitments.
  • You would like a regular break from day-to-day caring.
  • You are planning some time away and need to discuss cover.
  • Your family needs another source of support to share the caring workload.

Respite can also support a husband or wife who cares for their partner. Tell us who needs support, what their routine involves and when you need a break.

Ways to plan a break from caring

Regular time for yourself

Discuss recurring respite so that a break becomes part of your routine. This might give you time for appointments, other family responsibilities or simply a rest.

Short-term support

If you need cover for a particular period, talk to us about the dates and the care required. We can discuss suitable arrangements and availability following an assessment.

Care in familiar surroundings

Respite takes place in your parent’s own home. Their usual routine and preferences help shape the support agreed for the time you are away.

Understanding care needs

We can discuss respite for a parent living with dementia, Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis, or someone needing support following a stroke or an operation. An assessment helps establish the care required and whether our service is suitable.

A clearer plan for
the time you are away

Agreeing the care in advance helps you and your parent understand what the visits will cover. It gives you an opportunity to explain the routine, discuss preferences and ask questions before the arrangement begins.

Home Comfort Services completes a written summary after each visit, available for the client and family to comment on, and provides regular feedback.
