Companionship

Companionship at home
on the Fylde Coast

When your parent spends more time alone or stops doing things they used to enjoy, regular company can give their week more structure. Our companionship service provides time for conversation, shared interests and getting out, with support built around what your mum or dad wants to do.

Based in Lytham St Annes, we support people across the Fylde Coast. Visits last at least an hour, allowing time to do something worthwhile together.

When their world
starts getting smaller

Your parent may still manage much of everyday life independently, but find it harder to keep up the social side. Friends may be harder to visit. Getting to an appointment may depend on someone being free to drive. An interest they once enjoyed may have slipped out of their routine.

Companionship could help if:

  • Your parent spends long stretches of the week without company.
  • They have stopped going to familiar places because they don’t want to go alone.
  • Hobbies, reading or social plans have become harder to organise.
  • You live away or cannot regularly accompany them to appointments and outings.

The starting point is what your parent would like to keep doing, and what is getting in the way.

What companionship visits can include

Company at home

Conversation, reading together, watching a film, or spending time on hobbies and crafts. Visits can also include help preparing for friends or family to come round.

Getting out and staying connected

Visiting neighbours and friends, going out for lunch, or planning an outing. A carer can accompany your parent to activities and places they enjoy.

Appointments and arrangements

Help arranging appointments and travel, with someone to accompany your parent to medical, dental, optician or hospital appointments.

Keeping everyday interests going

Picking up newspapers, magazines or books, helping choose clothing for an outing, or making time for an activity your parent has stopped doing on their own.

Support that fits
around their life

Companionship gives your parent someone to share activities with and practical support to keep plans happening. Their preferences should shape the visit, including how they spend the time and where they feel comfortable going.

For you, it provides another source of support between family visits. Home Comfort Services completes a written summary after each visit, available for the client and family to comment on, and provides regular feedback.
